News Another Canadian Revenue Agency phone scam is making the rounds in Timmins SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Monday, Aug. 15th, 2016 The Timmins Police is warning local residents about another phone scam making the rounds. TPS says scammers are calling households pretending to be from the Canadian Revenue Agency. They are using persuasive and sometimes aggressive tactics to gain access to personal banking information. In some cases, the fraudsters say they are from the Timmins Police, even using names of current police officers to make collections on fake debt for the CRA. The police say they will never act on behalf of the CRA, who will generally send written notices if money is actually owed. If you get a call like this, hang up, and contact the CRA directly to check your standing.
