Heat warning continuing in Timmins today

The heat warning is continuing across the north, including Timmins, today. Environment Canada is calling for a high of 32, feeling like 37 with the humidex. A cold front is expected to roll through tomorrow morning, breaking the hot spell.

Those at highest risk for heat stroke are the elderly, infants, any those who don’t have air conditioning. The Porcupine Health Unit says staying hydrated, wearing light-coloured and loose fitting clothing, and limiting outdoor activity will help to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The health unit says symptoms of heat exhaustion are extreme fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and shallow breathing. If you suspect heat exhaustion, get into a cool area, drink lots of water, and seek medical attention if there is no improvement.

More tips on staying safe from heat exhaustion and heat rash are online, on the PHU website.
