Check for Lyme disease

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer is reminding the public to protect themselves from tick bites while outdoors this summer. Lyme disease can be serious and if not recognized early can lead to recurring arthritis, neurological problems, numbness and paralysis.

Lyme disease is spread through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick. Ticks live near the ground in woodlands, tall grass and bushes. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer warns that ticks thrive in moist environments such as under old leaves. If you or a family member are experiencing any symptoms or have any concerns contact your local health care provider.
