News Jubilee Centre gets support from city hall for additional funding to stay open in the summer SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Tuesday, Jul. 19th, 2016 Photo: Mayor Steve Black. Supplied by Taylor Ablett. A local centre for substance abuse and addiction issues is getting some support from city hall. Mayor Steve Black is pushing for additional funding for the Jubilee Centre. This comes after it was brought to light that the centre is forced to close in the summer due to a lack of funding. Black says they have to turn people away when they don’t have resources available to help. He says it is an issue, and people are being turned away because they don’t have the safe beds open during those months. City council is now looking for a new funding model to allow the centre to keep their doors open year-round, and not go through these closures. Council has sent a letter onto the LHIN asking for some additional funding, but there is no way to know if or when it will be provided. They are asking for an additional $400,000 every year.
