Taxpayers still waiting for an answer on the Nipigon Bridge failure in January

Taxpayers in Ontario are still owed an explanation over exactly what happened at the Nipigon Bridge, which failed back in January. That’s according to Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson, who says the government isn’t giving any information. He says they are claiming they don’t have the full story yet, and so they aren’t releasing anything. But, he says that makes him suspicious there is an issue there which will result in the province going after one of the contractors.

Bisson says the bridge was brand new, and he calls that concerning because it means there is some sort of quality control issue within the Ministry of Transportation. He says they didn’t catch the default, and neither did the contractors or the engineers. He says that’s why it’s important the public knows exactly what happened, so we can remedy it for the future.

Bisson points out there are other construction projects the province has entered into, and the public has a right to know what happened so we are protected.
