The budget for next school year at the District School Board Ontario North East has been approved. The budget is sitting at just over $120 million. The board says some of their priorities for next year are advancing the 1:1 iPad program, and hiring a First Nation, Metis and Inuit Education Lead.
The board also reports a 1.25 per cent salary increase for all staff.
However, Superintendent of Business, Pearl Fong-West, says the board is looking at a decline in student enrolment. The numbers went from just over 11, 500 students in 1998-99, to just over 6,600 for next year. Fong-West says that means their Ministry allocation is down, but does note they will continue to maintain all of their current programming.
