Henry and Ganuk have officially met for the first time

The two bears at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat have officially met for the first time. This comes after months of planning, with all hands on deck in case it didn’t go well. Staff from the Timmins Hospital were there, as well as world renowned Animal Behaviorist JoAnne Simerson, just in case emergency measures needed to be taken.

Some of those deterrents included fire extinguishers and hoses. However, Habitat Manager Karen Cummings says none of those measures were needed, and the two bears got along almost immediately. The bears will be spending more time together progressively as the lake enclosure is now open in the facility. The new enclosure makes the habitat the largest of its kind in the world.
