News Health Unit offering Hepatitis-A vaccines in response to outbreak SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Wednesday, Apr. 20th, 2016 Hepatitis-A vaccines are being offered at the Porcupine Health Unit on the heels of an outbreak across multiple provinces. Ten people in Ontario have developed the virus, but so far there are no reports of any outbreaks in our region. The virus outbreak is being linked back to frozen berries sold at Costco, called Nature’s Touch Organic Berry Cherry Blend. If you have eaten those berries in the last two weeks, and haven’t been vaccinated, get in touch with the health unit to get a shot. Hepatitis-A can cause a liver infection. Although it is rarely fatal, it can be dangerous for seniors or anyone with chronic illness. Symptoms include fever, stomach pain, dark urine, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, clay or ash-coloured bowel movements and jaundice.
