Council decides to look only at aquatic centre, not potential future expansion

Timmins is not going to be looking at expanding the proposed aquatic centre into a multi-use complex right away. Council debated the merits of having a feasibility study encompass all of the potential expansion ideas, or to just have it look at the aquatic centre.

Mayor Steve Black says having the study look at the future of the centre may be cheaper in the long run. He says there may be significant cost savings in terms of allowing the study to do that now, while they’re already immersed in the project. Black says that way, they could combine the engineering design projects.

After a discussion at council last night, the group decided to stay the course. The feasibility study is going to look at the two top spots, at Highway 655 and the current Sportsplex, and bring the cost of both sites back at the end of May.
