Haileybury Public School to close this summer

The North East school board is closing Haileybury Public School this summer. The decision was made during a special board meeting last week. Students at the school will be attending New Liskeard Public in the fall. Board Chair Doug Shearer says school boards are facing tough decisions as student enrolment goes down, and the age of the buildings go up.

This decision is saving the school board around $450,000 a year. That money will go towards building a new JK to grade 12 school in Temiskaming Shores, if the government decides to kick in some money. That decision could take up to six months.
