Ontario Lung Association calling proposed changes to smoking laws good news

The Porcupine Health Unit is going to be responsible for enforcing new smoking laws in Timmins if they are passed. The Ontario Lung Association is calling the proposed changes good news. Changes include expanding no-smoking laws so they apply to medical marijuana and will prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in areas were smoking tobacco is banned.

Vice President of provincial programs for the lung association, Andrea Stevens-Lavigne, says right now that’s not the case. Without the legislation, she says you could be in a movie theatre and have someone smoking medical marijuana or vaping right beside you.

Other changes include a longer list of where e-cigarettes can’t be sold, while setting rules for the display and promotion of them. Stevens-Lavigne says the changes should only take a couple of weeks of consultations before being brought into effect.
