Warmer temperatures prompt OPP warning on snowmobile safety

Mild temperatures in the forecast have northern OPP detachments warning snowmobilers to stay off the ice where possible. Police say warm spots, currents and slush can be expected with even warmer conditions in the long-range forecast. The OPP says never ride alone, always let someone know your route before leaving and avoid travelling across ice where possible.

Police say when you travel on ice you’re putting yourself and passengers at risk, with many fatalities still involving sleds breaking through the ice.
