Timmins council sending their appreciation to the province over bear hunt extension

The spring bear hunt extension is back on city council’s radar after a letter from the province. Natural Resources Minister Bill Mauro wrote to Mayor Steve Black about the extension, outlining some of the rules and regulations. Black says this is good news for the north, and the province has listened to what northern municipalities. He says even though some want to see the hunt permanently extended, they are currently looking at a five-year extension.

Black says the hunt is also opened up to all wildlife management units, which was an issue with the previous pilot. He says it will also open up the tourism aspect as non-residents will be allowed to hunt. Black says the city appreciated the response from the province, and says they have listened to their concerns.
