Ashley Larose says Smooth Rock Falls helped to get her where she is today

The new CEO of Science North in Sudbury credits her hometown with helping her to get where she is today. Smooth Rock Falls native Ashley Larose, who officially takes over the post next Monday, says growing up in a small town gave her many opportunities from easy access to nature to dedicated teachers.

“And you get lots of one-on-one time with them,” she said. “And they can really nurture a passion in their students and I certainly benefited from that. I had some incredible teachers growing up there that coupled with being really close to the outdoors sometimes joke that’s all there was to do.”

Larose says she understands the impact the Science North outreach program can have in smaller communities by giving students access to experiences they may not normally get.

“One of my ultimate favourite memories is going back into my old school and being able to do programs with kids in the classroom there,” she said. “That I will never forget and I am so proud that our organization continues to keep doing that.”
