Egypt – Gift of the Nile

January 29 @ 9:00 am - March 29 @ 5:00 pm

The Timmins Museum: NEC is pleased to present “Egypt, Gift of the Nile”, an exhibition organized and circulated by the Royal Ontario Museum, on view in the Grey Gallery from January 29th to March 29th, 2020.

The exhibition explores Egyptian civilization through everyday life; themes covered include buildings, family life, personal adornment, education and religion. A replica of a sarcophagus helps explain the Egyptian view on the afterlife.

The Nile River Valley of 6000 years ago was the birthplace of a remarkable civilization. Protected from foreign invasion by vast deserts and sustained by fertile soil along the river, the ancient Egyptians developed from a single agricultural community into a sophisticated society. Under a system of divine kingship, this Egyptian civilization flourished and endured for thousands of years and it contributed strongly to the later cultures of the Mediterranean and Europe. This exhibition gives us a glimpse of that ancient and intriguing civilization.

Museum hours are: Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm; Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00pm. Admission to the exhibition is free.
