Reports of a new aquatic centre costing $60M not exactly true, says Black

Mayor Steve Black is clearing up some misconceptions about the new aquatic centre he wants to build. There have been reports of it costing $60 million to build, which is only true if the city was planning on building an entire rec centre all at once. That includes the pool, a two-pad arena, and community centre. But council is only looking at the pool portion right now, which has a current estimate of $15 million. The city is still in the design study phase, which is costing $750,000. Black says having facilities like an upgraded pool is important to keeping people in the community, as well as attracting new residents and businesses.
