Sidewalk upgrades on the way for South Porcupine

South Porcupine could be getting some sidewalk upgrades. The city is talking about constructing a new sidewalk along Tisdale Avenue and upgrading Mahon Lane. City Engineer Luc Duval says this is something the city can afford in 2016. He says both initiatives will be reviewed as tenders come in with estimates. He says the money will come out of the roads budget.

Councillor Walter Wawrzaszek says there are safety issues with the way the sidewalks are now. Buses won’t go up Tisdale because there is nowhere to turn around. So he says you could go to Allan Street, cross over on Mahon, and then go down Tisdale. But the sidewalk needs to be done for that to happen.

The city is going to start reviewing the project in terms of cost and timeline this spring.
