Angus looking for mining support in the upcoming federal budget

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is fighting for the importance of mining to the north in the House of Commons. Angus spoke in the house yesterday, asking for a commitment to keep the mineral exploration tax credit. He says the feds are making plans for the upcoming budget now, but they have been very quiet on where they stand in terms of northern Ontario business, or the mining sector.

He says the mineral exploration tax credit was already cancelled in 2005. Stephen Harper’s government brought it back, but Angus says they have to stay clear and strong on their message to keep the credit so the same mistakes aren’t made. Angus says the closure of the century old Dome Mine in Timmins is a sign of the importance of supporting the search for new ore deposits.
