Timmins is looking at crosswalk timing after safety concerns were raised

Safety concerns at the intersection of Algonquin and Preston are being raised at city hall. Those who live in the Preston Place apartment building are saying the intersection is dangerous because there isn’t enough time to cross the highway before the light turns.

City Engineer Luc Duval says this is something AECOM is looking into as part of the Connecting Link study. They are going to use that specific intersection as the example to present to council. AECOM is running through computer models to analyze all of the intersections and come up with the best cycle time for pedestrians and drivers.

Duval says he has also personally asked his team to do more traffic and pedestrian counts at Algonquin and Preston. This will populate AECOM’s model with up-to-date, real life data. The study is being done over the next six weeks, and council will hear the results by the end of February.
