The New Democrat’s Transportation Critic is looking for answers from the Wynne Liberals over the Nipigon Bridge fiasco. The bridge is on the Trans Canada Highway, and when it broke apart this weekend it essentially split the country in two. Wayne Gates is now asking the province if they did their research into Northern Ontario conditions before awarding the contract. Gates says the government needs to explain if there was sufficient local knowledge and expertise to ensure the bridge could deal with a Canadian winter.
Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus has also weighed in on the fiasco, saying it’s the perfect symbol of the growing infrastructure crisis in the north.
