Strike avoided at the Monteith jail

Correctional workers at the Monteith jail are still at work today after a strike was avoided over the weekend. OPSEU and the province reached a tentative agreement that would see the province’s nearly 6,000 jail guards, parole and probation officers designated as essential service workers. That means all future bargaining will be subject to binding arbitration. If the agreement is accepted, the workers will also give up their right to strike.
