There is going to be a little more accountability and transparency from the Ontario government. MPP’s are now going to be posting their expenses online. Those numbers will then be open for anyone to see.
Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says it’s not a bad thing, but it isn’t necessary. He calls it “much ado about nothing”, because everything that is now posted online is information that used to be released at the end of the year. So the government would post those expenses once a year, but now they will be available in real time.
Bisson says the expenses are for things like traveling both within and outside of their constituency. He says the new system is confusing for those who have to post the claims, and the province has had to hire more staff to process the new, complicated forms.
