Long nights and low light levels can lead to anxiety, and HSN says S.A.D is common

While the holidays are a mostly positive experience for most, there are some people who may be feeling the weight of this time of year differently. The North East LHIN says the financial burden of Christmas coupled with the longest nights of the year and low light levels can leave some vulnerable.

According to Health Sciences North, Season Affective Disorder is common in the Northeast and can lead to anxiety and depression in some cases. The North East LHIN says there are many services for residents who may be in need over the holidays such as the Regional Warm Line, addiction services and mental health resources.
