A steady increase of food and hydro prices has northern MPP’s worried

Rising prices of food and electricity have northern MPPs speaking out at Queen’s Park. Timmins-James Bay representative Gilles Bisson is weighing in, saying it’s not just essential services like transportation and power that is an issue, but it’s also the price of food.

Transportation costs and a lack of competition impact the cost of groceries, and Bisson says people are finding those prices harder and harder to meet.

He says there isn’t much the government can do in terms of food prices directly, but it can look at the price of electricity and transportation. Bisson says there needs to be a strategy that makes life more affordable, and adds people shouldn’t be penalized for living in the north.
