City councillor asking for heavier police presence along Connecting Link

Concerns about the speed of heavy trucks along the Connecting Link are being raised. Ward Five Councillor Rick Dubeau says he has been getting complaints for months about some truck drivers going too fast through the city, running red lights, and being unsafe.

Dubeau says enforcement is the key. He says if you let it be known that the city is watching, and make an example of a few, than traffic can be slowed down. Dubeau also makes the point that the faster the trucks go, the harder they are hitting potholes, which results in more damage on the road.

Mayor Steve Black says he will bring this up to the police board at their next meeting. Black also says the city is also still waiting for more information on red light cameras, to see if it is a feasible option for Timmins.
