Snowmobile access is under review in Timmins

The City of Timmins is talking about expanding access for snowmobiles.  The snowmobile club is asking to use all of the city streets to get to the trails. However there are a number of issues with allowing that, like enforcement and safety.

Councillor Pat Bamford is saying a report from the Timmins Police indicates many snowmobilers going through the city now are breaking the rules, and catching them is almost impossible.

Councillor Andre Grzela is suggesting supplementing what is already allowed in Timmins. He says there is already a program where snowmobilers can go to different restaurants and hotels in the city. Grzela is saying council should encourage that, look into the programs they have now, and meet somewhere in the middle.

In the end, council asked the snowmobile club to identify their preferred routes. Then the city can go over those routes and find the safest option. The updated report will come back to council at a later date.
