Local girls hockey team looking for sponsors to bring Theo Fleury to Timmins

A local hockey team is looking for sponsors to bring a Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist to Timmins. The Kiwanis Midget-A Falcons, a girls team coached by Lindsey Leonard, are trying to bring Theo Fleury in to talk about overcoming adversity. Leonard says the event will be motivational, focusing on the personal life of Fleury and his auto-biography Playing with Fire.

The NHL superstar has overcome drug addiction and sexual assault, and he talks about that in his speech entitled Don’t Quit Before the Miracle. Leonard says his message of overcoming adversity is something the entire city can benefit from, and is one that hits close to home for her team.

Leonard says because of where the Falcons are in the north, it’s extremely difficult to play girls hockey. The team travels a lot; to Toronto, Quebec, Guelph, and even Detroit. Leonard says they try to get to the best tournaments, but all that travelling can be hard on the girls, who are all still in school full time.

The team is looking for sponsorships in various amounts which include different benefits, like getting to meet Fleury at the event. All of the tickets sales from the event will go back into the Falcons, to help offset some of their travelling costs for the season.

The sponsorship levels are:

Silver: $1,000 includes 2 tickets and attendance at the meet and greet with Theo, on-air publicity, and logo displayed on the advertising;

Gold:  $2,500.00 includes 2 tickets, attendance at the meet and greet with Theo, sitting at head table with Theo (first come, first serve up to 6 tickets available), on-air publicity, and logo displayed on the advertising.

The event will have a dinner, an open bar, a silent auction, and Fleury’s presentation. There will also be a meet and greet for sponsors, and a chance for everyone to get autographs at the end of the night.

To sponsor the event, get in touch with Marie Leonard at [email protected] or call 705 266 4688. General tickets will be on sale next month.
