Inquiry into Elliot Lake mall collapse has sparked action

Some recommendations from the Elliot Lake mall collapse in June 2012 are being acted on. The recommendations are from an inquiry that examined what led to the collapse that killed two women. The provincial Liberals will form a panel to examine how to make buildings safer and what buildings should go through mandatory inspections.

The province also wants the heavy urban search and rescue squad to train in simulated earthquake and building collapse situations. The measures are considered soft recommendations and the province says it needs more time to research the more complex recommendations from the inquiry.
