Off-road snowmobile trails could be coming to the north

Five municipalities, Ontario Tourism, and FedNor are working together to develop off-road and snow mobile trails. Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst and Dubreuilville are going to develop, refine and market the many trails our region has to offer.

CEO of New Business, one of the companies involved, Mike Jacobs says there are different focuses for each town. For example, he says in Cochrane they’ve seen an appetite for adventure touring, like adventure motorcycles. He says there is also potential for off-trail snowmobile riding.

Jacobs says all parties involved are investing seriously into the project. Each town will put in a few thousand dollars, which will be matched by Tourism Ontario and FedNor. All tolled it can add up to a few hundred thousand dollars.

CEO of New Business, Mike Jacobs says the reception to the plan has been well-received in the Northeast. He says it won’t just benefit local enthusiasts but provide an allure for tourism.
