NDP to investigate gas price gouging if elected

The NDP is going to investigate gas price fixing in the north if elected. Their proposed plan would have a gas ombudsman position created to follow up on complaints.

NDP candidate for Timmins-James Bay Charlie Angus says he’s written to the Competition Bureau in the past to have gas prices in Timmins investigated, who told him to prove it first.

Conservative John Curley says this is something he brought up to the city when he sat on council. He says an investigation from the Competition Bureau came back with no problems.

Green Party candidate Max Kennedy is on board with the plan. He says it’s a good idea, but questions how much authority the position will actually have.

Meanwhile, Liberal candidate Todd Lever says the plan is vote pandering. He says we have the Competition Bureau that investigates and prosecutes gas price fixing.
