The lack of leadership at the Ring of Fire is going to change if the Liberals are elected next month. That’s what Timmins-James Bay candidate Todd Lever is saying about the project which hasn’t seen any action. He says the current Conservative government hasn’t done much to develop the chromite project, but they would do things differently.

Lever says the Liberals have a strong plan for infrastructure, which will double the amount of spending over the next 10 years proposed by the Conservatives. He says the Harper government isn’t prepared to partner up with the province, the First Nations, or the surrounding communities to get the stalled chromite project into gear.

He says they don’t understand how to take a mine from exploration to production, because you can’t wait for market conditions. He says the physical infrastructure needs to be installed to get access to the riches at the Ring of Fire, and without federal government leadership that won’t happen.

Running against Lever in Timmins-James Bay is the NDP’s Charlie Angus, Conservative John Curley, and Green Party’s Max Kennedy. The election is set for October 19th.
