Ore trucks on Algonquin have sparked debate at city council. A local business owner brought a complaint to council, saying the increase of trucks makes it dangerous for pedestrians, and is impacting buildings downtown. This letter turned into a discussion of where to invest roads money into Timmins. Some think money should go into a bypass for the trucks, while others think it should go into Algonquin and Riverside.
Mayor Steve Black says although the trucks are inconvenient, it’s still good for Timmins. He says that’s because if there was no more trucks, that means there is no more mining. Council talked about looking into a bypass for the trucks, but Black says that would be another multi-million dollar roads project.
Black says there are around 3,500Â direct jobs in the mining business, with all sorts of spin off jobs.
