FONOM announces good news for northern health care

FONOM has announced five new residency positions for students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. This is good news, because research has shown that students who study in the north, stay here when they start practicing. President of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities Al Spacek says creating opportunities for NOSM graduates is an important part of increasing access to health care.

The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins, says these positions are going to make a big difference in improving access to primary care. He says they are committed to helping regions that have a high-need for doctors, like Timmins and the north east.
