Youth voting

The NDP are encouraging students to stand up to the Harper government to change the Unfair Elections Act.

C-23 doesn’t allow Elections Canada to support youth educational programs that encourage young people to vote.

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says programs like Student Vote have been successful for youth engagement. He says teachers believe in it and want it saved.

In the last election more that 500 000 Canadian students learned about the voting system and were encouraged to vote in students elections.

Teachers and students are encouraged to write their thoughts in letters and e-mails to the minister.
