Microtransit is coming to Porcupine and South Porcupine on August 1st, at least for a six-month pilot period.
The city’s public works and environmental services director, Ken Krcel, says you can book a ride from a spot near your home, to a bus stop.
Timmins Transit is spending the rest of this month on an awareness campaign.
“We have a large information webpage going on at the city’s website,” Krcel points out. “We have some videos and explanations on how this works. We have some QR codes so you can download the app on your smartphone, we have some mapping showing where the virtual bus stops will be.”
This allows for route improvements to and from those communities, and twice the frequency.
“The 16 and the 901 is going to be replaced with a new route called the 101 East,” says Krcel. “It’s going to be a more direct route to the east end, but in doing so, it’s going to run on a 15-minute frequency.”
An information open house is planned for July 25th at Northern College.
