It’s been a good year for Sports for Kids Timmins, and the beneficiaries will be the low-income families who need a financial boost to get their kids involved in sports.
President Colleen Landers says the largest number of kids were helped this year… with the biggest amount of money ever doled out, at almost $51,000.
“Last year, we only gave out 35 (thousand),” Landers reports, “and we’re very fortunate because the businesses and individuals and organizations have been very good about donating this year.”
Landers says also being raised is the amount per child, from $350 dollars to $400.
“We’re able to do that because we made $23,000 on our first charity golf tournament,” she says. “We are able then to increase that amount. As you know, everything has gone up for parents. They are having to pay the difference in some sports.”
