Many near collisions reported by school crossing guards at MacLean Dr. and Jade Ave.

City Hall and Timmins Police plan to take action against an increasing incidence of a safety problem at  the intersection of MacLean Drive and Jade Avenue.

Community services director Steph Palmateer says the two school crossing guards there have been relating near-collisions between vehicles, the guards and school kids.

“There’ve been a number of incidents where motorists haven’t been obeying the signs by the crossing guards. They’ve been driving through the intersection and the street while the crossing guard is still actually out in the street.”

You’re supposed to stop until the guards put their stop signs down and are back on the sidewalk.

“You have to realize these are our children in our community that they’re trying to cross safely,” Palmateer adds, “and they shouldn’t be out there dodging motorists.”

Police plan a higher presence in the area and will pull offenders over.
