Public library looking for teen advisors

If there’s one thing missing at the Timmins Public Library, it’s card-carrying teenagers.

So it’s looking for students from Grade 9 to 12 to join its Teen Advisory Group.

Reference assistant Melissa Morin says the work that advisory group members do, counts towards the community service hours they need to graduate from high school.

“They help us make book and movie suggestions,” she says, “and we kind of pick their brains about what teens might like to have these teens bring them into the library.”

All that’s asked is to go to one meeting a month, October to May.

“It’s a benefit if they like to read as well,” Morin adds, “because of course it’s the library, so they can look at all the books and they have first pick at our new YA, so our young adult books.”
