Mayor working on a return to ice sports at the Mountjoy Arena

There could still be ice in the Mountjoy Arena this winter sports season.

In response to a flood of inquiries, Mayor Kristin Murray says the city’s working a plan to use the facility as both an arena and the COVID-19 vaccination centre it has served as the past couple years.

“We have been having conversations with medical officer of health Dr. Catton at the Porcupine Health Unit with respect to making sure that they can run a vaccination clinic and members of our community can have access to the Mountjoy Arena,” the mayor explains.

“We’re working on a strategy to have people back in the arena this winter. I can’t specify a date, however there’s a strategy being worked on.”

Mayor Murray says she and Ward 1 Councillor Rock Whissell have been fielding a lot of inquiries about ice back in the arena on Park Ave.
