Pride Week starts with discussion

Timmins Pride Week shifts into gear Tuesday, with an online discussion on creating safer, more inclusive spaces in the community.

Timmins Pride coordinator-counsellor Mason Charbonneau says it’s for anyone, providing an opportunity to ask questions you are afraid might be offensive.

“Whether you run a business, or maybe you just want to make your office space more LGBT friendly” he says, “or maybe you’re a family member of someone who, you know, maybe you have questions.”

Charbonneau notes that ays small changes can make a big difference for the 2SLGBTQ community in things like paperwork you’re asked to fill out.

“What’s  your mother’s name and your father’s name? Well now we’re having generations of people growing up who have two dads or two moms and a lot of this paperwork doesn’t apply to them.”

You can register for the discussion here.

Also during the week, there is online trivia bingo, all ages bowling, and Saturday on Third Avenue, a rally and pride parade.  It all wraps up that night with a drag show.  Details are on the Timmins Pride website.
