What TPS’s Yippies are up to

The young people in blue jackets you’ve seen around town this summer are Yipppies.  That’s the affectionate name Timmins Police call their Youth In Policing.

It’s a summer job in which they learn what it’s like to be a police officer and act as goodwill ambassadors, as well as improve the community.

Coordinator Sgt. Robin Carter says lately, they’ve been working to beautify the community, promote safety, and address several issues downtown.

“They’re working on cleaning up the graffiti in the downtown core, which they’ve done an excellent job at,” Carter proudly tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “They’ve picked up garbage around all the different lakes in the city, different trail systems.”

They’ve also cleaned up the bush behind Thériault and TH&VS, and beenworking with officers to identify areas that need extra police presence.
