Lock your car doors, reminds OPP again

There has been another reminder from police about keeping your car doors locked. This time the advice comes from the Temiskaming OPP after more cars in the area were broken into. Dawson Point Road and McKelvie Street were targeted in the past week, and three cars had cash and property taken. Police say a professional can hotwire your car in 30 seconds, and leaving windows and doors open makes your car an easy target.

Tips from the OPP to keep your car and property safe:

  • Put curtains or blinds in your garage windows so your valuable items are not in view.  Keep the garage doors closed and locked at all times even when you are at home.
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
  • Do not leave any packages or valuables in your vehicle.  If you have to leave them in the vehicle, put them in the trunk prior to parking at your final destination.
  • Pocket your keys and do not hide spare’s.

If you see something suspicious, call police.
