Great views and unusual ideas for what to do at the Hollinger open pit lookout

The lookout at the top of the Hollinger open pit mine is open now, daily from 8:00am until 8:00pm.  You can get up there via Shania Twain Way, off Brunette Road.

Newmont Porcupine external relations manager Bryan Neeley says it’s equipped with benches facing both the pit and the city.

“On a clear day, you see the Timmins West headframe, you see Kamiskotia, you see the Kidd Creek headframe and you get to see everything from the hospital to the various buildings in town,” he lists. “So it’s a great, great view.”

That’s the general purpose of the lookout, although Neeley has he’s heard of a few ideas unique to a mining town.

“Over the past handful of months,” he says, “I’ve had a few people request to have weddings and to have wedding pictures taken there.”

That’s okay to Neeley, with the proviso that it is a public viewing area, and will not be shut down for private events like weddings.

There’s no admission fee and the lookout is open every day until September 30th.
