The Timmins Men’s Soccer League is attempting a revival, after being kicked off the pitch the past two years by COVID-19.
Longtime president André Gamache says there’s a meeting coming up for that purpose.
“On (Monday) June 20th, we’ll have a meeting at Boston Pizza, so any interested parties, potential team captains,” he says. “So we’ll both have to have a meeting and our annual general assembly, which hasn’t happened for two years.”
The meeting is at 8:00pm. Anyone over 16 can play. Gamache hopes to have games beginning in early July.
Also in the works is for an over-40 coed league.
Gamache says it’s for anyone who’s too old to chase 20-year-olds around anymore.
“There’s probably about a dozen to 15 of my former friends who’ve stopped playing in the men’s league over the last number of years who said if you start an over-40 team, we’ll come back and play and we may look at doing kind of a northern loppet with teams in Sudbury, North Bay and Rouyn.”
Over-40 soccer uses a half field. Contact André Gamache if you’re interested.
