Fewer waves expected registering for latest swimming lessons session

Timmins City Hall is guaranteeing that you won’t feel like you’re in over your head this time, trying to register your kids for swimming lessons.

City clerk Steph Palmateer says last time, there were two problems: an online platform that wasn’t up to the task, sending parents to the telephone; and the city’s telecom supplier seeing the inundation of calls.

“They thought we were being cyberattacked, so they shut down our system and blocked a bunch of our lines,” Palmateer explains.

For this session, you can register in person at Service Timmins inside city hall, or on the phone.

“We will have a maximum staff available to handle the phones,” Palmateer pledges. “We do advise the public though that if you’re calling and you do get a busy signal, just call back in a few minutes.”

Hitting redial can overwhelm the phone system.

Registration is open as long as spots are open.

“It’ll probably be full by the first day (of lessons), but you never know,” says Palmateer. “I guess it all depends on ages of the children that you’re trying to register.”

Registration opens Monday, June 6th.
