La Fête Nationale comes early in Timmins

La Fête Nationale – St. Jean Baptiste Day — will be celebrated a couple of weeks earlier than the traditional June 24th, this year in Timmins.

Lisa Bertrand is executive director of the LaRonde French cultural centre.  She says her group wanted to include school kids in the celebration. A musical group called “The Bilinguish Boys” is available on Thursday, June 9th, so that date was chosen.

There’s also a St. Jean Baptiste Fair on Second Avenue outside the library that afternoon.

“So there’s a free barbecue. Anyone can come out,” says Bertrand. “Come check out the French services, all the booths that we’re going to have there, and free live music.”

The headliner for the daytime kids’ show will do the same for adults that evening, at the Surge Sports Lounge.

“So we’re going to have the Bilinguish Boys,” Bertrand reiterates. “The Bilinguish Boys are such a good band. They know all the top French songs and English songs. So they’re like a jukebox.”
