Observant neighbour praised by police for reporting suspicious activity

An astute neighbour gets the credit for two people being arrested for break and enter with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The neighbour called Timmins Police on Monday, reporting a man and a woman trespassing on a property on Connaught Road, in the rural east end of the city.

When police arrived, they picked up the suspects and recovered a console TV taken from the mobile home on the property.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says the crucial point is that suspicious activity was reported.

“This is what your police service is there for, to investigate matters,” he explains. “If they turn out to be harmless and benign, then that’s the nature of the business. That’s a good day at work, too.”

“We have to be made aware of any suspicious activity going on. If you do see something that does capture your attention, you should be calling that into police for further investigation. That’s what we’re here for.”

So if you notice something odd going on, you’re encouraged to call 9-1-1 right away.
