Sounds of Austria to be played by TSO

“An Austrian Spring” comes to Timmins this Saturday night, when the Timmins Symphony Orchestra and Chorus stage a concert by that name.

Music director Josh Wood says it features some of the most famous music ever written, as he sings a few bars of Mozart’s Ouverture to the Marriage of Figaro.

“And then we’re playing Strauss’s On the Beautiful Blue Danube, which is really, really famous. It’s been parodied on The Simpsons; it was used in 2001: A Space Odyssey. So a really, really famous piece of music – lots of fun,” Wood remarks.

“There’s some stuff from The Sound of Music,” the music director continues. “There’s a Schubert ouverture, which is lots of fun.  So really lighthearted, fun music.”

The concert is at St. Anthony’s Cathedral at 8:00pm. Tickets are on sale at the Timmims Museum for $32.00 each.

Wood is recommending that masks be worn.  The orchestra and chorus will be wearing them.
