Fourth COVID-19 shot/second booster now available through Porcupine Health Unit

The Porcupine Health Unit has begun administering fourth shots of COVID-19 vaccine – a second booster, if you will. Program manager Kendra Brunet says it began this week.

“The (health) ministry has opened up fourth doses to specific groups and it is recommended that individual over the age of 60 receive a fourth dose,” she outlines. “The fourth dose can also be offered to First Nations, Inuit and Metis individuals over 18, as well as their household members.”

There’s no word on when the province will expand eligibility.

Brunet elaborates that this comes at a time when the number of cases is increasing rapidly.

“We’re definitely trying to recommend that people come out and get their booster doses if they’re eligible, as well as encourage businesses, workplaces to stay mask-friendly,” she advises. “Wear your mask when you’re in indoor public settings moving forward.”

For appointments and clinic hours over the Easter weekend, go to the PHU website. That’s where you’ll find more eligibility details.
