City working on access to the Beer Store during Algonquin Blvd. construction

Just like last summer, construction on Algonquin Blvd. will provide some challenges along the city’s major thoroughfare.  This year, it’s the stretch between Mountjoy St. and Thériault Blvd.

City engineer Pat Seguin says a stipulation is for the contractor to maintain access to businesses.  Mostly notably this summer is the Beer Store.  Discussions on that are forthcoming.

“Sometimes, Brewers Retail will tend to put things in trailers,” says Seguin, quickly adding “I’m not saying that’s what’s happening there, but there are some options. There’s certainly going to be some inconveniences. They do have other locations that can serve the public as well.”

Seguin pledges to work hard to minimize any disruptions.

He goes on to say that last year’s work proved that we can all work patiently around some inconveniences. He suggests we shouldn’t focus on the negative, remembering that we get a smoother ride and better lighting, among other benefits.

“And again, that connecting link is the engine of our city,” the city engineer remarks. “All the goods and services that our mines depend on. So it’s important to get something that’ll last us for years to come.”
